Prof. Murshed received his PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Nanyang Technological University Singapore (ranks among the global TOP 20 in the QS World University Rankings®). Before joining here in Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Instituto Superior Técnico, he was a researcher and professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the same university (FCUL) for several years. He was a visiting professor at the University of Toronto, Canada (2025), Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), New York (2021-2022), Imperial College London, UK (2019), and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT, Dhanbad), India (2022). Previously, he also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and University of Central Florida (UCF), USA. Prof. Murshed is enlisted in the rankings of World's Top 2% Scientists (both Career and single year of 2024 impact lists) since its first edition in 2019. Notably, he ranked 78th among 984 listed scientists from Portugal in the list for the impact of single year 2024. He also ranked #19 in Portugal among Best Scientists for 2025 in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering as recognised by Research.com. Besides 12 books and 35 book-chapters he has so far authored/co-authored more than 250 scientific publications in leading international journals and conferences. Several of his papers have been classified as Highly Cited Papers by Web of Science (Essential Science Indicators). His current citation count: 13000 with h-index of 45(Google Scholar). Prof. Murshed has received University of Lisbon's Scientific Award 2022 (Premios Cientifico Universidade de Lisboa/Caixa Geral de Depósitos 2022) in the areas of Mechanical, Naval and Aerospace (Aircrafts) Engineering for his exceptional scientific contributions and impacts. In 2020, he received the DUO-India Professor Fellowship Award (under ASEM-DUO Fellowship Program). Numbers of his group's papers received Best Paper Awards from reputed international conferences. He has served as an editor of-Journal of Nanofluids (American Scientific Publishers) from 2012-2020 and is currently the Chief Editor of Frontiers in Thermal Engineering (Micro- and Nano- Scale Heat Transfer), an Associate Editor of Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry (Springer) and Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics (Acadlore), guest editor of special issues of "Nanomaterials" (MDPI). He is also member of editorial board of several other international journals. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Society of Thermal and Fluids Engineers (ASTFE) and European Thermoelectric Society (ETS). Prof. Murshed is a management committee member nominated by FCT (Portugal) of European COST action CA21156: FOLIAGE (2022-2026). He was also management committee member and a group leader of European COST action, CA15119: NanoUptake (2016-2020). He is also a core team member of European commission's CIG project (NANOConVEX: 2020-2021). He is the PI of an ongoing project-"NanoCOM" funded by FCT, Portugal. He has regularly been serving as an expert evaluator for the EC and for funding agencies of different countries. He also acts as an external reviewer for many international PhD theses like Imperial College London as well as about 40 international journals including numbers of top level ones like "Nature".
