Complete biography

Born in Lisbon, Júlio Henriques, attained a degree in Engineering Physics from NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT-NOVA) in 1995. As part of an Erasmus programme, he received a scholarship to attend Montpellier II University in France, where he completed his final project in Engineering Physics in 1992. Júlio Henriques pursued a master's degree in Physics at Instituto Superior Técnico of the Technical University of Lisbon (IST-UTL) in 1996, conducting research on Plasma Physics split between the Center for Plasma Physics of the Instituto Superior Técnico (CFP-IST) in Lisbon and the Centre de Physique des Plasmas et de Leur Applications de Toulouse at Paul Sabatier University (CPPAT-UPS) in Toulouse, France. His research focused on Kinetic Processes in Plasma Discharges in Surface Wave Generated Nitrogen Plasmas, and he completed his master's degree in 1998 with a scholarship from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). In 1998, Júlio Henriques began his doctoral program in Engineering Physics at IST-UTL, funded by a scholarship from FCT, and continued his research on Plasma Physics split between CFP-IST in Lisbon and CPPAT-UPS in Toulouse, where he stayed for two years. His doctoral thesis centered on the Theoretical and Experimental Investigation of Surface Wave Sustained Plasma in Ar and N2–Ar Mixtures, and he completed his doctoral program in 2002 at IST-UTL. Following his doctoral program, Júlio Henriques continued his research on Plasma Physics, splitting his postdoctoral period between CFP-IST in Lisbon and CPPAT-UPS in Toulouse from 2003 to 2005. His focus was on the development and design of new plasma technologies for the sterilization of surgical materials contaminated with bacteria and for ecological applications. In 2006, Júlio Henriques secured a research contract at the Institute of Plasmas and Nuclear Fusion of Instituto Superior Técnico (IPFN-IST), where he continued his research on the development and design of new plasma technologies with ecological, biomedical, and hydrogen production applications. He expanded his research in 2011 to include the study of nanomaterials production using plasma technology, and in 2021, he extended the scope of his research to the study of ecological production of fertilizers using plasma technology. Júlio Henriques has an h-index of 22 and holds the distinction of being a co-inventor of four issued patents, with an additional patent currently under review. He has also co-authored ten book chapters and published 43 articles in international peer-reviewed journals. Furthermore, his contributions extend to over 103 articles in conference proceedings and the delivery of 113 presentations at international conferences. He has given 28 invited lectures and 24 oral lectures at international conferences. Additionally, he has actively contributed to the mentorship and supervision of master's and PhD students in his field.
