I have completed my graduation, master degree and PhD at IST. My main field of research is energetic particle physics in tokamaks. My work has been based on the scientific exploitation of the JET tokamak, the world’s biggest experiment in fusion research, where I have been scientific coordinator of many experiments. Currenty I am working on the scientific exploitation the JET and AUG tokamaks along with teaching at IST.

I have graduated at IST, in Technologic Physics Engeneering. After that, I have studied X-ray spectroscopy in the TCV tokamak, Lausanne, Switzerland, having completed my master thesis titled "X-ray spectroscopy in the TCV tokamak”. During my PhD, I have worked on energetic particle physics at the JET tokamak, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, the world’s biggest experiment in fusion research. The title of the PhD thesis was "Stabilization of the internal kink mode, n=1, m=1, by energetic ions accelerated in the ion cyclotron resonance". After completing my PhD, I have focused my activities on the scientific exploitation of the JET tokamak. I have found a new type of "fishbone" instabilities and have developed a theory to explain it. During the following years, I have been scientific coordinator (SC) of many experiments at JET. By 2011, I have spread my activities to Eurofusion, working in MHD Workpackages, Integrated Tokamak Modelling and ITER physics. At the same time, developed a new theory on channeling energetic ion transport. In 2013, I have collaborated on the creation of a new group dedicated to the research of Energetic Particle Physics in IPFN/IST. In 2014, I have joined a team of international experts which is developing the control of Alfvén modes through external actuators. These are based on experiments carried out at AUG tokamak, Garching, Germany. Since 2017 I am member of the ITPA-EP, a restrict group of world’s leading experts which define the orientation of the research within the field of energetic particle physics. Currently I am doing research on energetic particle physics both on JET and AUG tokamak along with teaching at IST.
