Marta Almeida obtained her degree in Environmental Engineering, from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, in 1998, and completed her PhD in Environmental Sciences in 2004 at Universidade de Aveiro. After obtaining the doctoral degree, she developed her post-doctoral work at Instituto Tecnológico e Nuclear (ITN). From 2006 to 2008, she worked at Instituto de Soldadura e Qualidade (ISQ) where, in addition to her research activities, she was responsible for 31 consultancy projects related to air quality management, for national and international industries. From 2008 to 2013 she was Assistant Researcher at ITN (meanwhile integrated at Instituto Superior Técnico - IST), within the scope of the Science 2007 program. In 2011, Marta Almeida became responsible for the design and development of research programs, scientific activities, management of facilities, team coordination and supervision of students in the research group Neutron Activation in Environment, Nutrition and Epidemiology, one of the main users of the Portuguese Research Reactor (RPI). In 2013, she started a contract as Invited Researcher at IST and, in 2014, she started her Assistant Researcher contract with IST-ID, under the Investigador FCT program. In July 2017 she started her contract, in public functions, as an Assistant Researcher in the scientific area of Nuclear Technologies and Radiological Protection of the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Sciences from IST and in 2021 she was promoted to Principal Researcher. Presently, Marta Almeida is Vice-President of the Center for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies (C2TN) of IST where she develops her activities in the research field of air quality and low carbon economy. Marta is PI of the EXPOLIS project financed by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and P2020 and coordinates at IST the projects Hospital Sudoe 4.0 and 3SQair (both Interreg Sudoe), PAB-Living Lab (EEA Grants), ECF4CLIM (H2020) and InChildHealth (Horizon Europe). In addition to these projects, she participated in more 23 projects: as principal investigator in 4 FCT projects and 2 European projects; as responsible in the institution in 1 project funded by the European program Interreg Med, 1 project funded by the European Union's Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS), 1 FCT project, 4 IAEA funded projects and 1 project financed by the National Strategic Reference Framework (QREN); and as part of the research team 1 QREN, 3 IAEA, 2 FCT, 1 COST and 2 RFCS projects. Marta Almeida published 6 books, 3 book chapters and 143 articles in internationally circulated magazines with scientific arbitration (135 ISI) with 3099 citations and h-index 30. She made 63 oral presentations (28 as a guest speaker) and presented 20 posters at national and international congresses. Marta Almeida is co-author of the international patent Mobile Service Robot capable of collecting biological and soil samples for environmental monitoring. She participated in the organization and the Scientific Committee of 13 international conferences and courses. Marta Almeida has completed the supervision of 7 post-doctoral studies, 7 doctoral works, 24 master thesis and 20 undergraduate works. She currently supervises 1 post-doctoral, 3 doctoral and 1 master study. Marta Almeida coordinates and teaches the course "Air Quality Management" of the Master in Environmental Engineering at IST.
