M. Fátima Araújo graduated in chemical engineering in 1977 at the Technical University of Lisbon (IST – Instituto Superior Técnico) and joined the Laboratory for Nuclear Physics and Engineering (later ITN) in 1978 in the Radiochemistry Group. She obtained her Ph.D. degree in chemistry in 1989 at the Universitaire Instelling Antwerpen (UIA), in Belgium, and the equivalence by the Instituto Superior Técnico in 1990. Her main interest have been focused on fundamental and methodological research of elemental and isotopical analysis and the application in Cultural Heritage, Environmental and Earth Sciences. Current work is dedicated to the Archaeometallurgy of the Portuguese territory and Environmental Geochemistry of coastal areas. At present, she is Principal Investigator at the Department for Nuclear Sciences and Engineering (DECN) and the Head of the Group Radiations, Elements and Isotopes at the Centre for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies (C2TN)
