Ângelo Palos Teixeira is Associate Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon (UL). He has a Ph.D. degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering by the Technical University of Lisbon in 2007 and a master’s degree by the Faculty of Engineering of Glasgow University in 1998. He is vice-president of the research Centre for Marine Technology and Ocean Engineering (CENTEC) of IST and Principal Investigator of the research group on Safety and Logistics of Maritime Transportation of CENTEC. He is the coordinator of the undergraduate and master’s courses in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). His main areas of research are risk assessment and management, maritime traffic safety, structural reliability, and reliability and maintenance of systems. Since 1996 he has been involved in the activities of the International Ship and Offshore Structure Congress (ISSC) as member of the Committees: V.2 on “Structural Design Against Fire and Blast” (1997); IV.1 on “Design Principles and Criteria” from 2006 to 2015; and member of the specialist panel V.8 on “Subsea Technology” from 2016-2022. He was in 2020-2021 guest editor of the Special Issue on Safety of Maritime Transportation Systems and he is currently guest editor of the Special Issue on Safety, Reliability and Availability of Complex Systems and Structures, both of the Reliability Engineering & System Safety Journal, Elsevier. He has published around 250 scientific papers, including 90 papers in international journals, 90 international book chapters, 35 papers in International Conference Proceedings, and has co-edited 6 books. He has a Scopus h-index of 32, 4065 citations, 177 documents (January, 2023).
