Jorge H. Leitão current research is primarily focused on the molecular biology of exopolysaccharide biosynthesis by gram-negative bacteria, on the biology and genetics of bacteria of the Burkholderia cepacia complex (BCC), and on the discovery and characterization of small noncoding regulatory RNAs in these bacteria. Research interests are also focused on the application of molecular biology methods to environmental microbiology.
