Tiago Domingos, M.Sc. in Physical Engineering (IST) and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering (IST), is an associate professor in Environment and Energy at IST, the engineering school of the University of Lisbon (UL). Tiago Domingos teaches or has taught courses such as Thermodynamics, Environmental Modelling, Environmental Economics, Ecological Economics and Sustainable Development and coordinates the M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering at IST. He has supervised or co-supervised more than 20 PhD students in, among other areas, Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Energy Systems and Economics. Tiago Domingos is coordinator of IST-Ambiente, the IST platform for Environmental Science and Engineering, and president of MARETEC – Marine, Environment and Technology Centre. Tiago Domingos is a researcher in Ecological Economics and Ecological Modelling, aiming at creating a theoretical, mathematical basis for sustainability assessment, integrating contributions from Ecology, Thermodynamics and Economics. He has most notably worked on DEB theory for the metabolism of organisms, the useful exergy approach to energy and economic growth, carbon responsibility indicators, ecosystem services, comprehensive accounting and sustainable agriculture, with more than more than one hundred papers in international peer reviewed journals. Tiago Domingos is or has been the principal investigator (overall or of a partner) of more than 40 projects, with national and EU R&D funds, by public agencies and by private companies, with a total funding of over 10 M€. Tiago Domingos is founder and CEO of Terraprima, an IST Spin-off, winner of the European Commission’s “A World You Like with a Climate You Like” competition for the best climate solution in Europe in 2013. He also won the National Environment Award, the Forum Environment Award - Category "Research", the Scientific Award UTL/Santander Totta 2010, the Scientific Award UL/Caixa Geral de Depósitos 2020, the Energy Globe Award - Portugal and was semi-finalist of the Land for Life Award (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification).
