Professor at IST; researcher at ISR.
Research interests
- The ultimate goal of my research is to make computers extract high level information from an image sequence by seeking its simplest interpretation. I'm mainly interested in statistical and information-theoretic models, as well as in efficient algorithms to perform inference with respect to those models. Application areas are in virtual reality --- automatic generation of unseen panoramic views and complete 3D models --- and digital video --- content-based representations suitable for compression, addressing, and non-linear editing
- Besides computer vision and image analysis, my other research interests include statistical signal processing, stochastic processes, machine learning, pattern recognition, nonlinear systems, automatic control
