Ramiro Neves is a Mechanical Engineer (IST, University of Lisbon, Portugal, 1979) specialized on Fluid Mechanics with a PHD on Hydrodynamic Modelling (Liège University, Belgium, 1986). Since 1989 he is an Associate Professor at IST teaching in the domains of Fluid Mechanics, Energy and Mass Transfer, and Environmental Modelling for graduate and undergraduate students. IST is his main teaching place, but he has also taught in the University of Évora (Portugal) as an invited professor (9 years) and, as a Visiting Professor, at the Federal University of Belém do Pará (3 years) and the State University of Rio de Janeiro, (2 years). At IST he was the coordinator of the Environmental Engineering Ph.D. course (4 years) and of Environmental Engineering Platform (2 years). He is one of the founders of the MARETEC Research Centre in 1992 and was its President for 19 years. Since the beginning of MARETEC he has coordinated the research group on Environmental Modelling and Monitoring. The main product of his research is the MOHID Mathematical Modelling system whose main components are a model for free surface flows including hydrodynamics and biogeochemical processes (MOHID Water) and an integrated catchment model including the vadose and the saturated zones, surface runoff and vegetation development (MOHID Land) and a Lagrangian model with modules for submarine outfalls, oil spills, plastic debris and biogeochemistry. The MOHID main components have been developed in the framework of complementary Ph.D. theses (24 defended between 1992 and 2022, 4 under development). Two spinoff companies were created by former students (1992 and 2012), employing about two tens of engineers and doctors and a third one was created in Brazil in 2022. Former students are working in four countries, in companies, public laboratories, or universities. He is author or co-author of 144 publications referenced in SCOPUS (168 in ORCID) and of 357 documents identified by google scholar. According to Scopus is h-index is 29 and (in the 27th December) was cited in 2730 times in 1995 documents and he has 358 co-authors. He has participated into 91 research projects. About 50% of those projects were international and has coordinated about 10% of those. He has coordinated more than 20 projects with industry or governmental offices in Portugal, Spain, and Brazil.
